How about giving an E-Book for Christmas?

Christmas is coming and there is nothing better than curling up with a gifted book after all the mayhem has subsided. While paperbacks and hardbacks are always lovely, in recent years E-books have been increasingly popular gifts. Whether you decide to send a classic novel, a bestseller or a personalised selection, sending an e-book is a thoughtful and convenient way to spread holiday cheer.

If you are unsure how to do it, here are some tips to make the process easy.

  1. Selecting the Right E-Book: The first step is the most fun as you choose the book. What do you know about the recipient? What are their interests? Do you know their reading preferences of favourite authors? Is there something you have read yourself that you know will make them smile or absorb them late into the night?

  2. Know your Recipient’s E-Reader: Before you can send an e-book, it is essential to know what type of e-reader your recipient uses. E-books come in various formats and not all e-readers are compatible with the same file types. The most popular e-readers include Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, Barnes &Noble Nook, and Kobo. Each of these devices supports different e-book formats so you need to make sure that the format you choose is compatible with the recipient’s e-reader.

  3. Purchase the E-Book: So, with the perfect E-Book in mind and having confirmed the compatibility of your recipient’s e-reader, you need to make the purchase.  You can buy e-books from online retailers such as Amazon, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble as well as others. Most of the platforms offer a straightforward purchase process and it is possible to make the purchase in a few minutes.

  4. Gift the E-Book: After purchasing the e-book you should be able to find the option to gift it to someone. Here’s how to do it on two different platforms:

    Amazon Kindle

  • Go to the Amazon Website

  • Find the e-book you are purchasing in your Kindle library

  • Click on the “…” (three dots) next to the book title and select “Give as a Gift”

  • Enter the recipient’s email address and add a personal message

  • Complete the purchase and the e-book will be sent to your recipient’s Kindle device or app.

Apple Books:

  • Open the Apple Books app

  • Find the e-book you want to gift in your library

  • Tap on the book’s cover

  • Tap the “Share” button (an arrow pointing upward)

  • Choose the “Gift” option and enter the recipient's email address and a personal message

  • Confirm the gift and it will be sent to the recipient’s Apple Books Library

People who read E-Books will love this thoughtful gift and there are so many options to choose from. If they are interested in historical fiction why not try something different: ‘The Welsh Traitor’s Daughter’ and the sequel ‘The Welsh Warrior’s Inheritance’ are both available in E-Book.
